Gianni Infantino has voiced his help for Samuel Umtiti and Lameck Banda after they encountered racial maltreatment during a game. |
Gianni Infantino, the leader of FIFA, voiced his help for two Lecce players who were exposed to racial insults during an Italian Serie A game on Wednesday, encouraging allies to "plug up every one of the bigots."
Samuel Umtiti, a safeguard from France, and Lameck Banda, a forward from Zambia, both experienced racial insults during the match between Lecce and Lazio in Italy's top association.
Infantino expressed: "Fortitude with Samuel Umtiti and Lameck Banda - we should yell it plainly: NO TO Prejudice! under an Instagram post that included pictures of two players.
"May the vast majority of good-hearted fans speak up to silence the racists once and for all!"

After the game, Lecce's Twitter account tweeted: "The supportive cheers overpowered the racial ones. One name was being yelled out by all of the Lecce supporters: Samuel Umtiti.
In response to Infantino's online message, Umtiti himself wrote: "Only football, pleasure, and joy. The rest is irrelevant.
"The league always condemns all types of prejudice in sports, and the same will do for yesterday's occurrence," Serie A responded to JEJALNEWS.
In addition, Serie A stated that the Italian Football Federation's Giudice Sportivo, not the league itself, would be responsible for imposing sanctions for the abuse.
